Recurrent Primary Cardiac Hemangioendothelioma: Case Report and Literature Review

Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is a malignant tumor possibly of vascular origin. Its usual location is the soft tissues, mediastinum, central nervous system, pleura, lungs, liver and bone. However, its appearance in the heart is extremely rare. We present the case of a 67-year-old male patient who consulted for progressive dyspnea, edema of the lower limbs and painful congestive hepatomegaly. Primary cardiac HEE is diagnosed by biopsy. Subsequently, tumor recurrence was documented, which is why the Tumor Board, which decided to start chemotherapy (Paclitaxel plus liposomal Doxorubicin for 6 cycles), evaluated him. The patient continues to be monitored by Oncology with evidence of stable disease. Primary cardiac HEE is a very rare tumor. Paclitaxel plus doxorubicin treatment is a chemotherapy regimen that may be considered in the management of advanced or recurrent primary cardiac HEE after cardiac surgery.
