The myofibroblastic inflammatory tumor is a rare cause of pulmonar injury, with a usual benign behaviour, however, can present invasion to adjacent structures. Some cases are associated with a previous respiratory infection. Usually the patient is symptomatic, but, until the 40% of patients do not refer symptoms. The diagnosis is made exclusively by immunohistochemical and the treatment is surgical resection, generally the prognosis is good, but, have been reported recurrences in 18% to 40% of cases.
Herein, we present the case of an 8 years old boy with productive cough, thoracic pain and presence of a mediastinal mass, confirmed by immunohistochemical markers as a myofibroblastic inflammatory tumor of the lung, the patient required surgical treatment, including left pneumonectomy, with satisfactory clinical evolution.
